BIGGEST STREET RACE IN MEMPHIS HISTORY: “GRUDGE ON THE GATE” IS ABOUT TO SHAKE THE CITY

Memphis is about to light the fuse.

February 20th and 21st, Rivergate Road becomes the epicenter of NoPrep Drag Racing, and the energy is already unreal. 100+ cars are locked in—not “maybe” cars, not “we’ll see” cars—committed racers rolling in ready to set the tone for the entire season. Racers, teams, and fans aren’t just showing up… they’re showing up to make a statement.

Memphis Needed This—and Now It’s Here

Let’s be honest: Memphis drag racing has been starving. With Memphis International Raceway closed for years, Mid-South racers have had to travel just to get that hit of real competition. That gap didn’t just leave an empty track—it left an empty heartbeat.

That’s exactly why Dennis Bailey and Shaye Kelly built “Grudge On The Gate” back in December: to bring the fire back to the city and give Memphis a race that feels like home turf warfare again.

And this isn’t some thrown-together meet. Shaye Kelly brings the experience of working with local government to help secure the permits needed to do it the right way, while Dennis Bailey—along with his brother Derrick—brings years of racing, promotion, and TV experience from across the country. Translation: this has both the access and the execution to be legendary.

100 Cars. On The Street. Let That Sink In.

Most tracks struggle to keep things tight with a fraction of that car count.

Now picture this: a stacked field on a NoPrep surface, where every run is a fight for traction, pride, and bragging rights. The first event already sparked a buzz across the scene—and now that word has traveled? Memphis is about to feel that electricity in the air, the kind you don’t forget.

This is the kind of weekend where:

  • crews are thrashing late into the night,
  • turbo cars are whistling in the dark,
  • nitrous bottles are getting filled,
  • and the whole street feels like it’s holding its breath between burnouts.

Payouts, Prizes, and Pure Pressure

It’s not just hype—there’s money on the line, too.

The race will pay multiple spots, with the main split coming in heavy:

  • 80% to 1st place
  • 20% to 2nd place

And the crew is stacking extra payouts and prizes that are legitimately worth chasing. When you add that to a 100+ car battlefield, every round becomes a pressure cooker—because nobody came to Memphis to “participate.”

History Gets Written on Rivergate Road

This weekend isn’t just another race date—it’s a marker in time. The kind of event people bring up years later like:

“Yeah… I was there when Grudge On The Gate turned Memphis back up.”

Rivergate Road. Memphis, Tennessee. February 20–21.
The only question left is the one that matters:

Are you street?
